Ivory Service Architect

Service-oriented architecture is a key initiatives for many companies tying to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and flexibility of their systems.

Ivory Service Architect provides a powerful web services solution that allows legacy mainframe applications to communicate seamlessly with SOA distributed systems.

Ivory meets the challenge of disparate environments head-on, transforming mainframe CICS COMMAREA, 3270, IDMS and IMS applications into web services within minutes.

Ivory Service Architect unifies mainframe and distributed environments by quickly, efficiently and securely transforming mainframe transactions into Web services, without requiring any new coding or code changes.

Ivory is very intuitive and easy to use for mainframe developers. The same people who built the underlying CICS or IMS applications are able to deliver the business service with an easy-to-use browser-based front-end.

Ivory Features

Ivory provides a way to build Web services from existing mainframe business processes without any modification to the existing CICS or IMS code. With IVORY you can graphically add additional business rules without any coding.

Ivory Service Architect also supports orchestration. In addition to building web services from a single business process, Ivory allows to graphically connect multiple CICS, IMS and IDMS business processes along with any other Web service into a single web service application. This accelerates the processing time, optimizes the number of calls towards the host computer and reduces network access.

Ivory also supports bi-directional connectivity. Web services can be created and driven anywhere by any application in the SOA ecosystem.

IVORY toolset enabled to focus on the business objectives, instead of on the mechanics of exposing and consuming Web services.

Ivory Service Architect includes two components:

  • Ivory Studio - Development environment (IDE)
  • Ivory Server - Runtime execution engine

Ivory Studio

Ivory Studio provides the tools necessary to turn mainframe programs into web services.

IVORY Studio is a Windows based graphical integrated development environment (IDE) used to create web services, deploy them and build orchestrated flows to implement multi-layered or composite services.

Unit-test and tracing facility of Ivory Studio are very powerful. It allows to follow service orchestrations and data flow to facilitate debugging.

Once the service is created, it can unit-tested and deployed. Ivory automatically generates the required WSDL used for using the newly created web service.

All messages and XML handling is handled by Ivory Server component at run-time

Ivory Server

Ivory Server provides the run-time support for executing and orchestrating web services .

Ivory Server can be deployed in a number of different ways. It can run on or off the mainframe, depending on user needs.

When running on the mainframe, Ivory Server can either run natively in its own address space, or as a CICS application. Ivory can also run on Linux platform, offering increased deployment flexibility.

The choice of deployment can be dictated by factors such as performance and available capacity.

IVORY Data Access

Ivory Data Access is another member of the Ivory product suite. It plays a key part in enabling the mainframe to participate as an equal partner in SOA by making mainframe databases and files available through a standard SQL interface.

This enables Ivory Service Architect services to address any data needs, easily and safely, by making calls to Ivory Data Access as part of the service flow created within Ivory Studio.

IVORY Benefits

Mainframes still form a critical element of IT investments, representing considerable corporate value. Ivory provides the tools to unlock that value, making it accessible across the enterprise.

Ivory Service Architect makes the mainframe an equal partner in the SOA ecosystem.

With Ivory, mainframe programmers can build Web services without any knowledge of XML, SOAP, WSDL, or HTTP. It bridges the gap between your web development team and your mainframe programmers.

  • New projects can be developed more quickly
  • Efficient use of resources can reduce the development phase by 30%
